Healthy Hair at the Beach

Raleigh Hair Concepts

Who doesn’t love swimming in the ocean when summer rolls around?  It is a great way to get outside, spend time with friends and family, have fun and exercise.

By following a few simple tricks, you can help to keep your hair healthy despite the fact that chlorine and salt water pose several potential risks to your hair.

Salt water especially is extremely aggressive to your hair.  A significant amount of hair loss is caused by dryness, and salt water can extract the protective oils that naturally moisturize your hair and scalp, leaving it dry, weak, and susceptible to breakage.

To help avoid this, go to the beach with a leave-in conditioner in your hair, as this will help to shield and protect it from harmful chemicals penetrating your hair and scalp.

When you get home from the beach, wash your hair as soon as possible.  First however, thoroughly rinse your hair in clean water before getting into the bath or shower.

If you want to take an extra step to ensure moist, healthful hair, it is beneficial to apply a hair mask after washing and conditioning; especially if it has been one of those long, drawn out beach days you had been yearning for all winter!

By following this regimen you can get the most out of the summer and keep your hair healthy without being the buzzkill who stays sitting on the towel while everyone else is diving in!

  • Thank you so much for such a wonderful job on my hair. It’s nice to have such a great group of people to get to know during an otherwise unpleasant time. Now I can go out in public with more confidence!
